GUIDANCE and COUNSELING SERVICES
Classroom Guidance: Students participate in
guidance activities within the classroom setting on a regular basis. These
activities focus on character education (Character
Counts www.charactercounts.org) and
the development of positive learning behaviors/social skills (Project Alert/Life
Skills Training).
Small Group Counseling: Opportunities are available
on a voluntary basis (and/or parental/self referral) for students to
participate in group counseling. Topics are on an as needed basis and may
include development of social skills, conflict management or grief counseling.
Individual Counseling: Individual counseling may be
requested by the parent for the child or by the child him/herself. Except
in suspected child abuse or at the special request of the student (as stated by
SD codified Law 19-13-12.1), parents will be informed of the need for individual
counseling. In some cases, situations may require referral to community
resources, after parental consultation.
